Trees Native to North Florida are ideal

At Leon Trees we encourage and promote the planting on Native Trees in North Florida. There are many reasons to choose native trees over exotics.Native trees are more energy efficient because they are adapted to our soils, temperature, and rainfall patterns, thus native plants require less irrigation and fertilization. Native trees are usually low maintenance. Native plants are resistant to pests and diseases in Florida because they have evolved under constant exposure to these organisms.

When to Plant Native Trees

Planting native tree species is no different than planting exotics. Consider first, the time of year the tree is to be planted. Trees bought from nursery in containers can be planted any time. Trees that are balled-and-burlapped can be planted in winter and spring. If you are moving a tree and it has bare-roots exposed it, should be planted only in the spring.
