It all started when Leon County government and Village Square hosted a Club of Honest Citizens event at a local coffee shop. The event invited attendees to share ideas on new and meaningful ways to engage citizens while shaping the community.
What grew was the idea of a Historical Tree database, later named Leon Trees, where the community could learn more about the trees that make Leon County unique. In partnership with Leon County, Village Square, City of Tallahassee, Florida State University Environmental Service Program, Cornerstone Learning Community and the local arborist community, a grass roots organization of citizens are leading the way to promote and protect one of Leon County’s most historic resources. Leon Trees is dedicated to expanding and fostering the natural tree canopy of our county.
